Gold Medal Game on February 20/14

Natalie Spooner - who kindly appeared at a popular community event at Hogan Chevrolet Buick GMC in the fall – led the Canadian Women’s Hockey team to the Olympic Gold Medal game, when she scored 2 first period goals in Canada’s 3-1 semi-final victory over Switzerland.  Natalie also hit the post, on a breakaway, in the third period.

Sheppard East Village BIA salutes Natalie Spooner - and we wish Team Canada success in the Gold Medal game against their long-time rivals, Team USA.

More Community News Coming

SEV BIA will be meeting, in the near future, with officials from the Oriental Centre, Agincourt Collegiate, the Canadian Legion and other local organizations, to discuss ways in which we can all work together,

to help our nearby neighbourhoods.  Watch for more information about upcoming events.

New Restaurant Opening Soon

SEV BIA was pleased to learn that Barsalino’s will be opening soon – offering quality Mediterranean cuisine at attractive prices, in the heart of our BIA.  Located between Brimley and McCowan, this restaurant has been undergoing extensive renovations and will be ready to open in the coming weeks.

Follow Our Olympic Hopeful

Since she appeared at a neighbourhood community family event at Hogan Chevrolet Buick GMC in the fall, many people in our area have been following Natalie Spooner, a talented forward on the Canadian Women’s Hockey team.

The final pre-Olympic exhibition game between Canada and the United States took place before over 17,000 people, at the Air Canada Centre, in December – and our neighbourhood was delighted to see Natalie score one of Team Canada’s two goals.  We all wish Natalie and her teammates great success at the Sochi Olympics in February.

Chinese New Year Coming

Among the annual events in the Sheppard East Village neighbourhood that always generate strong interest are the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Oriental Centre (northeast corner of Brimley and Sheppard Avenues).

For further information, please email orientalcentre@gmail.com or call 416-298-8298.

Food Drive at Hogan's

The annual Holiday Season Food Drive – for the Daily Bread Food Bank – is now underway at Hogan Chevrolet Buick GMC.

Everyone is invited to drop off some food or to participate in some very appealing raffles that will raise needed funds for the Food Bank.

Hogan’s (5000 Sheppard Avenue East, between McCowan and Markham Roads) collected 1,341 pounds of food during their Thanksgiving Food Drive, earlier this year.

The staff at Hogan’s are pleased to support the Food Bank. “To give back to our community is a very good feeling,” noted Office Manager Suzanne.

Hogan’s invites everyone to stop by with a donation for this very worthy cause.

Our Neighbourhood Benefits

These concerts and plays, at neighbourhood schools, provide great experience for the participating students and also help them grow as individuals, through their performing and arts experiences.

People who live nearby have an opportunity to come out and enjoy these performances – right in our own neighbourhood. The tickets are very reasonable and help defer some event costs.

Everyone is welcome – hope you can make it!
